Save Our Water is a campaign to raise awareness about Sio Silica Corporation’s sand mining activities in southeastern Manitoba. The company has announced its intention to develop the Vivian Sand Facility and Sand Extraction Projects. There are serious concerns about the potential impact on the environment, particularly the Winnipeg Sandstone and Red River Carbonate aquifers and associated drinking water and human health.

Manitoba Eco-Network (MbEN) along with coalition members Our Line in the Sand Manitoba (OLS), What the Frack Manitoba (WTFMB), and Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition (MEJC) are participating in a Clean Environment Commission (CEC) hearing as requested by the Minister of Environment, Climate and Parks. 

The CEC hearing will allow us to review in detail the proponent’s Environment Act Proposal in an evidence-based and independent forum and allow us to find out if the impacts on drinking water and human health have been properly considered and addressed. 

Our coalition is launching this campaign to raise at least $15,000 so that we can hire independent experts to provide testimony at the CEC hearing to voice our concerns to protect our water.
