About MANITOBA OPERA
Manitoba Opera was established in 1969 by Justice Kerr Twaddle and a group of individuals dedicated to presenting opera to Manitobans.
The company's first production was a concert version of Verdi’s Il Trovatore. In 1995/96, Manitoba Opera staged Randolph Peters’ Nosferatu. In 2004 and 2008, MO toured Dean Burry's The Brothers Grimm. In 2007, MO premiered Transit of Venus by Victor Davies and Maureen Hunter. In 2008, the company presented the North American premiere of Jason and Hanna by Melvin Burtch and Mark Morris. In 2010, MO commissioned Al Simmons to create a one-man version of The Barber of Seville.
Under the leadership of current General Director and CEO Larry Desrochers, Manitoba Opera produces two full-scale productions in the 2,145 seat Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall. The company also present concerts or opera-in-concerts, school tours, educational programs, and community engagement activities.
