40% of girls in India aged 15 to 18 do not attend school. 30% of girls from the poorest families have never set foot in a classroom.
Since 2019, the Mariam Society has funded high-school education scholarships for girls in rural India.
We cover the cost of fees, books and uniforms, making it easier for parents to keep their daughters in school. We also run workshops in financial literacy, menstrual health, and career planning to empower her and expand her mind.
Education makes girls less vulnerable to child marriage and abuse, and is the most important factor in moving her out of the cycle of multi-generational poverty.
We have a goal to fund 4000 education scholarships by 2030.
To date we have funded almost 500 scholarships, and 100% of the girls we support have stayed in school.
