About MATTHEWS HALL

Matthews Hall is an independent school which operates on a not-for-profit basis and is governed by a volunteer Board of Governors.  Through the encouragement of strong basic skills, good work habits, rich and varied activities, and total participation, the school nurtures in each student caring actions, an optimistic spirit, a sense of personal value, and a belief in community.  The school’s motto, Debeo Possum Volo, means I must, I can, I will.  It expresses responsibility, competence, and determination.  In our small classes, we meet and exceed the Ontario Curriculum guidelines, and offer a well-rounded program which includes physical education, French, visual and performing arts, dance, and chess.  We believe that curriculum lies in everything, from modeling good manners to approaching difficult mathematics solutions, and we accept the importance of developing goals and grace with each child.

At Matthews Hall, the family is welcomed, which allows for the full synergies between learning at home and at school to be realized and harmonized.  We believe that people make the place.  The essence of any place is found in the people who bring it to life.  It is our faculty and staff—their values, energy, and relationships—that shape the culture, spirit, and identity of our community. Their actions, attitudes, and connections transform our spaces into meaningful places where our students feel seen, supported, and inspired.
