About MEADOW LAKE & DISTRICT HUMANE SOCIETY

The Meadow Lake & District Humane Society is a 100% volunteer‑run organization dedicated to helping stray and homeless cats and dogs find loving, permanent homes. Every adoptable pet is spayed or neutered prior to adoption, provided they are old enough for surgery.

Our story began in 2003, when a small group of local residents came together with one goal: to create a safe place for the many stray animals in our community. After operating for several years in inadequate facilities—and building a small shelter that housed cats and small dogs—we were able to jointly purchase a used kennel building with the Town of Meadow Lake.

The building was moved to its current location in the industrial area in the summer of 2007, with interior setup completed later that year. Outdoor pens were added in 2008 and in 2024 we completed major renovations, including a new furnace and air‑conditioning system. Today, this building serves as both our adoptable animal shelter and the town’s impound facility, supporting the needs of the community and the animals who rely on us.

We are a volunteer‑operated shelter with no regular or paid staff and no public visiting hours. All animals in our care are supported by the dedication, compassion and hard work of our volunteers. We are immensely grateful for the incredible individuals who give their time and heart to MLDHS and those that support MLDHS through donations.
