Medicine Hat Ecumenical Campus Ministry

about

The Medicine Hat Ecumenical Campus Ministry Chaplaincy is a Christian initiative serving students, staff and faculty from all faiths and traditions.

What is a chaplain? A chaplain is a spiritual guide and support, primarily to students, but also to staff and faculty. The ecumenical chaplain engages with all members of the college community in confidentiality, respecting their pre-existing spiritual values and beliefs while encouraging further spiritual thought and growth.

What does the chaplain do at Medicine Hat College? The chaplain is employed independently of the college, while collaborating with the college executive, the Student Supports team, the Faculty Association, and the Students' Association, with the goal of enhanced quality of life for everyone on campus.

We offer support in key areas of spirituality and emotional well-being from the basis of this belief: People are more likely to weather the storms of life and find success if they are emotionally supported, and grounded in a healthy spirituality.

Because many students struggle with food insecurity; we offer a bi-weekly free lunch during the academic year and emergency food supports.

What other services does the chaplain provide? Support to students of all faiths, international students, faculty and staff having difficulty with:

  • Questions about spirituality and world religions
  • Stress
  • Grief
  • Homesickness
  • Being human in a difficult world and needing to talk about it

The chaplain provides:

  • Pastoral Care counselling
  • Briefings/lectures to classrooms when requested
  • Worship and prayer services
  • Spiritual Retreats

The Campus Ministry operates out of The Interfaith Centre which is a warm, inviting space which offers comfortable furnishings in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere It is an inviting place to take a break from the busyness of the day, or have a chat with Chaplain George. The Interfaith Centre is provided by the College and is open to use by people of all faiths.

We invite donors of all faiths and traditions who believe in supporting students for the duration of their College experience—from registration to convocation, and beyond—to contribute to this valuable ministry, and we offer our profound thanks in advance!
