This is our first ever matching campaign. We have established a matching fund through the generous donations of anonymous donors.
Matching Funds: We have established a matching fund of $50,000 with an objective of raising $100,000.
HOW IT WORKS: Every donor donation will be matched on a dollar for dollar basis; a donor $ will be matched by a matching fund $, doubling the impact of the donor donation. More specifically a $250 donor donation will be matched by $250 from the matching fund which creates a $500 bursary for senior secondary students in the Greater Toronto area.
When: The campaign will run for 50 days beginning November 4 through to December 24, 2019
THE MERIT IMPACT: Over the past 25 years Merit has helped 2,540 students, in high needs secondary schools, in the Greater Toronto Area. Bursaries valued at S1.7 million have been distributed over the 25 years.
Merit Award recipients have higher graduation rate than the average. The Merit Award is not just about marks but about the whole person- the students contribution to both community and school. The Merit Award is more than a bursary it is a portal to business skills and business professional's mentorship. The education system is stretched. Merit is a motivational tool for Educators.
Not all students have equal opportunity to higher education, the Merit Bursary attempts to narrow the opportunity gap.
