Mile Zero Dance Society (MZD) is a thriving dance-based arts non-profit, charitable organization located in Edmonton, where we have recently moved to a warehouse space in the up and coming Ritchie neighbourhood. MZD is committed to finding ways to create, present, teach, and make dance accessible to the community in various ways.
The company is devoted to the creation, training, and presentation of contemporary dance in its many forms, and has produced a complete artistic season for two decades.
Since 1985, MZD has concurrently run dance education programming available to schools, which has extended to community organizations and inner city schools. MZD grows and changes to meet community needs, while still focusing on dance and interdisciplinary activity.
MZD received the Spirit of McCauley award for work in Little Italy. MZD is a member of the CanDance Network of presenters, CAPACOA, the Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance, Alberta Dance Alliance, and Theatre Alberta.
Artistic Director Gerry Morita is a choreographer/dancer/instructor who was awarded one of Alberta’s 25 Most Influential Artist Awards and Edmonton's Salute to Excellence Award, and brings to the company a collaborative, site-specific, and interdisciplinary perspective.
