Helping those that need our help when they need it most.
The Minden Community Food Centre, formerly the Minden Food Bank, was established in 1993. Since then we have served our community by providing groceries that include protein, dairy, vegetables and pantry items, freshly made food from our kitchen, clothing, toys, books, school supplies and other household goods for those who are in need. Some key times of year for us are:
How we're currently struggling: From January to October, we find that donations have slowed down from the previous Christmas season. We are in dire need of support, and are working very hard to continue supporting families with fresh, frozen, and pantry items. The months between January and October can be extremely difficult, because we are in the down period from donations. We appreciate any monthly donations that can help us maintain our current level of food supplies.
- August- During the month of August we gather school supplies to give to parents with school age kids, so that their children can go to the first day of school knowing that they will have everything they need for the year.
- Christmas- At Christmas we make over 170 hampers. These Christmas Hampers include all the food, that they will need for the week around Christmas as well as toys for each child in the home.
- Floods- Although we do not deal with them every year when the flood waters come we work alongside all those who are called to help. We provide relief centres, cook hot meals for those who are affected, and collect/distribute bedding, towels, toiletries and food for anyone who needs it.
