IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE AT ANYTIME
When the power supply in our cells fails, it’s called mitochondrial disease.
Life-altering and with no cure, mitochondrial disease typically affects those parts of the body that require lots of energy to function like the brain and our muscles. Common complications associated with mitochondrial disease include strokes, seizures, gastro-intestinal problems, difficulties swallowing, blindness, deafness, heart disease and liver disease. It affects children and adults and has been linked to more common diseases like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, ALS, multiple sclerosis and many others.
The MitoCanada Foundation is committed to ensuring that those who live with mitochondrial disease are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life until there is a cure. We are Canada’s only organization for mitochondrial disease awareness, education and advocacy. Since its founding in 2010, MitoCanada has dedicated over $1 million to fund the work of leading Canadian scientists and to support national awareness and support programs.
Donating to MitoCanada is a way to honour someone special in your life and receive a receipt for tax purposes. Your gift can express congratulations, admiration or sympathy for friends, family or colleagues in a meaningful way. Celebrate the life of a loved one by making a one-time or monthly gift or donating securities. If you would like to set up a personal fundraising page contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’d be happy to get you set up.
Let’s eliminate mitochondrial disease in our lifetime. We can’t do it without you.
