Today we are asking for a little help.
It’s no secret that times are tough in the arts; we need to bolster our fundraising to match increasing costs. Right now, we are reaching a crucial moment in our finances. It is urgent that we raise $5,000 by May 31, 2019 in order to meet our financial commitments to our artists, programs, and staff. We are asking you to help us raise $5,000 by May 31 and a total of $10,000 by August 31, 2019.
Since 1977, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre has been a catalyst for cultural activity in the Kingston-area, providing artists and curators opportunities for exhibition as well as professional development and acting as a resource for information on the arts. As Kingston’s only artist-run centre, we have served the community for over 40 years. Now, we are asking for your help in sustaining our programming and operational costs, including:
- Exhibition-related costs, such as paying artists CARFAC-standard fees as well as providing financial assistance for travel, shipping, and installation
- Salaries for our two full-time employees
- Operational costs, including rent and electricity
With the majority of our funding coming from operating and project-specific grants, our financial situation is often precarious. The future of arts grants can be uncertain—especially given the reduced budget for the Ontario Arts Council in the recent provincial budget. The rest of our funding comes in the form of personal donations, membership fees, and fundraising activities throughout the year, which we now need to increase with your help.
Will you demonstrate your support for Kingston’s only artist-run centre? Be one of the donors who makes it possible for us to support local and regional artists. Please help us reach our goal of raising $5,000 by May 31 and a total of $10,000 by August 31, 2019 to secure our financial situation.
There are three ways that you can contribute:
- By donating to our fundraising platform
- By coming to the gallery and/or one of our events and making a donation in person
Every dollar counts and will go towards supporting Modern Fuel: programming, such as exhibitions and events, and ultimately, the artist-run culture of Kingston.
As artists and cultural producers ourselves, we on the board and staff understand the significance of Modern Fuel to artists and our communities: for many of us, it has welcomed us to the Kingston art scene, offered the opportunity for our first exhibitions, been the place where we enjoy time with friends and family, and connected us with incredible artists and curators. We thank you for your continued support of Modern Fuel.
Because of you, our future will be brighter. Will you help us get there?
