Montreal Danse

about

Founded in 1986 by Paul-André Fortier and Daniel Jackson, Montréal Danse is a platform for choreographic and community development. Montréal Danse places artistic boldness at the heart of its mission. Under the artistic direction of Kathy Casey since 1996, it supports both established and emerging choreographic voices, and promotes contemporary dance from dance made in Montreal on local and international stages.

However, for us, dance does not stop at the boundaries of the stage.

Since 2010, Dance against violence (DCV) embodies a deep artistic and social commitment through direct work with vulnerable communities. More than a workshop program, DCV is a space for repair, empowerment, and solidarity. Every guided movement, every shared breath, every danced gesture is an affirmation: the dignity, presence, and strength of people experiencing violence deserve to be honored, supported, and amplified.

Spearheaded by the company, this initiative offers unique corporal support where words are no longer enough. Today, we want to go further: forge new alliances, increase the visibility of our work, and strengthen the sustainability of this program, which offers a vital space for well-being and building confidence.

Our mission - Offer movement workshops to people made vulnerable or marginalized by various types of violence, in order to help them reclaim their bodies, regain confidence, and break isolation.

Our vision - We believe that dance is a universal language, capable of touching, transforming, and uniting. Through our creations, we showcase the artistic vitality of Montréal. Through our social commitment, we cultivate spaces of resilience and empowerment for vulnerable persons, particularly women and children.

Our Social Engagement

Over 15 years, Dance against violence  (DCV) means:

  • 4,100 participants accompanied
  • 750 workshops conducted
  • 8  partner organizations (shelters, community centers)
  • A team of 4 trained and passionate dancer-facilitators
  • Expansion into Québec City initiated in 2025 with La Rotonde

Our workshops offer what traditional approaches do not always achieve: a path through the body, creativity, and play, to reconnect with oneself and others.

Why donate to Montréal Danse?

💜 To support the artistic community: a creative company recognized for nearly 40 years of supporting dance made in Montreal.

💜 Because you believe in the social power of art: every donation to DCV allows women and children to rediscover their bodies as a place of safety, not battle.

💜 Because you are investing in a unique model: At the intersection of art and social justice, DCV is a locally rooted initiative that is nationally inspiring.

💜 Because every gesture counts: whether you donate $15, $30, $75, $150, or $300, you plant a seed of resilience.

💜 Because dance is a living, necessary art, and it belongs to everyone!
