Montreal Fluency Centre

about

Our Mission

The Montreal Fluency Centre is a multilingual not-for-profit clinic working in partnership with the community to serve the needs of children with difficulties in communication, stuttering, learning and literacy. Through Speech-Language Therapy and Psycho-Educational services, our goal is to reduce the long-term risks of these difficulties and minimize the impact that they may have on children’s lives.

The Challenge

- 35% of children in Quebec are unprepared to enter school

- Quebec's dropout rate is 29%

- Remote areas of Quebec are often at highest risk of school failure and have limited access to services

- Many high risk children are disadvantaged because their families can't afford language therapy

- Average wait time for treatment is 18 months in the public sector

- Treatment takes longer than necessary without a home program to support its goals

- Immigrant families with multiple languages often constitute complex clinical cases that few clinicians are comfortable treating

The MFC Solution

- Through early and effective therapy, we increase academic readiness and close this gap

- By treating children through all educational transitions from preschool to high school, we reduce dropout rates and school failures

- We make our treatments available to remote communities via telepractice, using our video-conferencing facilities

- Bursaries are available to families who need financial assistance- no child is ever turned away for an inability to pay

- Our average wait time is 3 months

- We develop and train a full support team- including parents- from both within and outside the clinic to enhance treatment effectiveness ensure the child's success

- We specialize in complex clinical cases and develop community partnership to enable treatment programs to reach such families

About Montreal Fluency Centre

Serving families in Montreal and throughout Quebec for over 25 years, the Montreal Fluency Centre (MFC) provides assessment and treatment of children with speech, language and learning difficulties.

At our centre and through online treatment services we see over 100 children weekly. Thanks to our generous bursary program, many low-income families in Montreal, Laval, the South Shore can receive treatment at a subsidized rate. We work with First Nations communities and children from remote communities who can otherwise not access treatment.

The MFC integrates professional best practices with state of the art technology to develop unique programmes for our community. We work in collaboration with health authorities, school boards, local community groups and parents.
