Our Mission
Mosaic – Newcomer Family Resource Network is a rights-based organization that provides newcomer parents and primary caregivers with opportunities to develop additional language and parenting skills to build the confidence and independence needed to participate actively in community life, so they may contribute to and share in the benefits of their new communities.
About Mosaic-Newcomer Family Resource Network Incorporated
The Mosaic English as an additional language program offers part time classes and on-site childcare specially designed for parents with preschool aged children. The classes are located in communities as close as possible to pockets of newcomer families, and local schools.
In addition to language classes, Mosaic runs a variety of parenting programs and family literacy groups for newcomers. Mosaic operates a Family Place and indoor mini-gym at Knox United Church. These drop-in programmes are essential for parents who need a place to connect with other parents and play with their children in a welcoming environment.
All of our family programs are specially designed for ESL parents, we provide cultural and linguistic support, and all are facilitated or co-facilitated by trained newcomers and experienced mentors. Many of our programs can be offered in first languages.
Mosaic has a pre-employment program especially for newcomer women who want to pursue a career in childcare, or a related field. Our 170 hour Family Engagement Mentorship offers training in many research based parent programs, a supervised practicum in a licensed day care centre, and micro-credentials that increase participants' chances of gaining full and meaningful employment.
