Founded in 2005 by Maestro Joseph Milo and his wife, Lucy Ravinsky, the Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra is comprised of  approx.50 musicians, 35 of whom come from 15 different countries and the remaining 15 that are from Montreal.  The MWSO is a unique integration model which in this case is through the creation of an orchestra.  The orchestra’s mission is to offer newly arrived musicians a platform where they can showcase their talent and discover the Montreal professional orchestral music community.  The orchestra is often their first access to playing professionally, which allows them to practice their art while becoming integrated into their newly adopted environment.

The mandate of the orchestra to produce symphony concerts of superior artistic quality accessible to various audiences and to regroup immigrant musicians who had a professional formation in orchestral music in their countries of origin, together with Quebec and Canadian musicians.  The aim is to join the newly arrived with people in their profession and to therefore integrate both professionally & socially more easily.

Maintaining the social mandate of the orchestra is always assured by the constant surge of new people of all ages & origins arriving in Montreal.

The maintaining of artistic quality and the transmission of social abilities is better assured by the permanence of certain musicians in the ensemble.  Those members share their artistic ability and social networks with the newer members of the orchestra.  This is very important for the social comfort of the musicians and for the continued cohesion of the group.
