Context

Haiti imports over US$1 billion worth of food each year, even though 46% of its population works in agriculture. Local farmers face enormous challenges: limited access to tools, training, and infrastructure makes it nearly impossible to produce enough food for their communities.

Goals

Strengthen agriculture in Plaine-du-Nord community, Haiti by supporting local farmers, sharing agricultural knowledge, and building sustainable systems that grow local resilience and reduce long-term reliance on external aid.

Activities

Supporting the “Impact Makers” team (20 full-time staff and day labor opportunities for local community members) which:

• Operates a model farm that produces a variety of crops for seed and also serves as a hands-on learning site for university students interested in agriculture;
• Manages a tractor service and land-share program that help local farmers (including women and the most vulnerable) gain access to land and prepare it efficiently and affordably;
• Runs a primary school for 60 students, providing foundational education alongside early agricultural exposure, inspiring the next generation to become skilled farmers.
