NANAIMO COMMUNITY HOSPICE SOCIETY

about

Our Mission

Dying, caregiving, and grieving are three of life’s greatest challenges.  Nanaimo Hospice believes that everyone struggling with these challenges regardless of age, means or culture deserves support. With compassion and dignity, our volunteers and professional staff offer free programs, resources and education to our community when and where it is needed most.

All programs are free and contribute significantly to the health and strength of our community. Each year Hospice staff and volunteers provide direct support to over 2300 individuals facing end of life issues in their homes, in hospital, in care facilities, and through programs offered at Hospice House. Hospice volunteers working with those facing end of life issues contribute well over 22,000 hours annually.

About NANAIMO COMMUNITY HOSPICE SOCIETY

Hospice has been serving our community since 1981. Our staff and 150 volunteers have a wide range of experience and skills that enable them to offer practical assistance and supportive care to meet the special needs arising out of the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and economic stresses which are experienced during the final stages of living and during caregiving and bereavement.

Hospice programs and services are free and include: professional counselling for all ages, one-on-one palliative support in your home, volunteer support for patients and families on the palliative care unit in hospital, group support, a weekly walking group, a knitting group, a self-care clinic (reiki, relaxation & aromatherapy), library resources, bereavement follow-up, telephone support, and more. Anyone can refer to Hospice.
