About Us
A Year of Expansion and Achievement
Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation raised a record-breaking $12,732,035 in revenue and expectancies during the 2024-2025 fiscal year-an inspiring reflection of our shared commitment to advancing healthcare for everyone in the Central and North Island region.
The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation continues to grow with purpose and impact. In FY2024/25, we welcomed 3,578 generous donors – a 19% increase from the previous year. Our individual donors grew by 23%, community group participation rose by 28% and support from foundations grew by 19%. Each number reflects more than generosity – it reflects a shared belief in putting healthcare first. This growth is a clear sign that our message and mission are resonating. Thank you for being part of this momentum and for helping shape the future of healthcare in our region.
$10.5 Million Raised to Transform Critical Care
In October, we celebrated reaching our ambitious $10.5 million fundraising goal ahead of schedule, a milestone made possible by the extraordinary generosity of over 4,300 donors – led by the Windsor Plywood Foundation. After years of planning, building, and unwavering community support, the once ranked “worst ICU in Canada” is no longer. This brand-new, state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit opened September 3rd. The 12 bed HAU, opening alongside the 12 bed ICU, will provide specialized care for patients with complex health needs, giving our healthcare teams the modern tools and environment they need, and deserve, to perform their life-saving work.
It's In My Nature to Give - We’re raising $25 million over the next three years to transform healthcare.
The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation is launching its most ambitious campaign yet: $25 million over the next three years. This comprehensive donor centered campaign is focused on advancing key areas of tertiary care: cardiology, neurology, maternity, and gastrointestinal health. In addition, we will support vital enhancements in emergency medicine, mental health services, and other programs aligned with our six areas of focus.
