NeighbourLink North York's mission is to engage and empower neighbours to care for each other in practical, relational & sustainable ways
Neighbourlink North York is a Christian-based community development organization serving the Willowdale community in North York. Our mission is to engage and empower neighbours to care for each other in practical, relational and sustainable ways that gives everyone the opportunity to live out their potential.
We believe transformation happens when we work together to address the gaps and needs around us. For over 30 years, we have been running a volunteer network of neighbours, community groups, businesses and local churches to address the gaps in our community and serve neighbours dealing with food insecurity, social isolation and poverty.
NeighbourLink North York has a two-pillar approach to community development: Community Building and Community Care.
Community Building - Our events help people gain a sense of belonging and are created to foster participation and reduce isolation. Our key events include our Let's Move Willowdale Move-a-thon, Meet Your Neighbour Week, Taste of North York and the We Love Willowdale Christmas Market.
Community Care - Through awareness, participation and advocacy, we seek opportunities and develop programs that benefit the most under-resourced among us. We have a thriving volunteer network of 600 neighbours who help us with our community outreach events, along with our other care initiatives, including our monthly food distribution at our 415 food hub, and bi-weekly food distribution at our 675 food bank, mobile food deliveries for people who are food insecure and unable to get to a food bank, afterschool program and summer camp for underresourced children and youth, youth community engagement programs, seniors events, and newcomer welcome teas.
The neighbours we help include seniors, people with disabilities and chronic illness, single mothers and their children and youth, and people living below the poverty line.
