Nelles Manor Heritage House

about

Nelles Manor Museum is a hidden gem in the cultural and heritage landscape of Niagara.

The 1798 heritage house at The Forty (currently Grimsby) by United Empire Loyalist and entrepreneur Colonel Robert Nelles. The home stayed in the family for four generations until 1971 when it was purchased by the Coutts. Between 1930 and 1950 the fourth generation divided it into eight apartments. Over 45 years the house was restored to its former glory. It was donated to the people of Grimsby and Ontario by the Coutts family in 2015 as an independent nonprofit charitable organization.

The Nelles Manor Museum had its grand opening in 2016. You will find original architectural features and artifacts. The museum grounds are recognized as a War of 1812 battlefield site.

Visitors receive a guided tour to discover the architecture, artifacts, Nelles family stories and historical lifestyle of the 1790s.

The Nelles Manor Museum hosts a variety of events and programs including: teas, open hearth cooking, concerts, theatre, ghost tours and magical Christmas open houses.

As an independent museum donations allow for preservation, education and programs.
