Creating healthy community through providing support for women and advancing gender equality.
About Nelson & District Women's Centre
The Nelson and District Women’s Centre is a place for women to learn, connect, and be actively engaged with their own lives and their community. For over 40 years we have provided a welcoming space where women build strong community, participate in diverse learning opportunities, receive compassionate support, and access free resources.
Women can receive free healthy food, toiletries, clothing, peer counseling, referrals and a friendly and accepting place to be. In addition, the Centre provides a month-long free volunteer skills development training, youth projects focusing on gender-based issues, community kitchen and garden, feminist library, and many events in the community. We have also recently expanded our mandate to include a trans resource and community engagement space, with a drop in program for the trans and gender diverse community.
What People Are Saying
"How can such a small building provide so much for so many? It's just a safe place to come, to share good things, resources and all the great things we have to share with each other."
