Honouring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future!

In addition to the extensive military aviation history in the province, several New Brunswickers had major impacts on aviation history in Canada. Daphne Paterson became the first woman in Canada to obtain a commercial pilot’s licence; W. Rupert Turnbull perfected the variable pitch propeller; and, Ken Patrick, a Second World War RCAF veteran, founded CAE, the largest aviation simulation company in Canada. New Brunswick also produced two of the original RCAF Golden Hawk pilots, Ralph Annis of McAdam and Bill Stewart of Dalhousie, Golden Centennaire Russ Bennett of Saint John, and alternate Red Knight ,Rod Ellis of Bathurst. The museum wants to inspire the youth of New Brunswick to follow in the footsteps of these aviation pioneers.

The new facility will include a large exhibit area, reference library, office space, collections area, washrooms and the Golden Hawk Aerospace Academy. An Aviation Heritage Park will be built on site which will include a monument to all New Brunswick air force members who died during the two world wars, one for the people who died in training accidents in New Brunswick and a third to recognize the RCAF air men, air women and family members who died in Canada's No. 1 Air Division. As those lost in Europe were never repatriated, the Museum will provide a place of remembrance here in Canada for their families and loved ones. The Heritage Park will also contain an interpretive panel display of New Brunswick aviation heroes and a tribute to the RCAF Golden Hawks.
