The New Brunswick Historical Society, which was founded in the 1870s, is the custodian of Loyalist House, located in uptown Saint John, New Brunswick. It was completed in 1817 by Daniel David Merritt, who arrived from New York in the 1780s as a Loyalist refugee. Several generations of the Merritt family lived in this fine residence, until it became a museum starting in 1961. The Society also sponsors public lectures on New Brunswick and Canadian history.
