As per its mandate, the purpose of the New Brunswick Refugee Foundation (NBRF) is to establish, receive and maintain a fund or funds and to apply from time to time all or part of the principal income therefrom to charitable organizations that are also registered charities and that (i) relieve poverty and advance access to justice by providing free legal services to impecunious persons making refugee claims or other humanitarian-based immigration applications; or (ii) provide support services for refugees in need. The principal recipient of funds from NBRF is the New Brunswick Refugee Clinic, a non-profit organization and registered charity that provides free bilingual legal services to refugee claimants and other at-risk persons filing humanitarian-based immigration claims in the province, particularly those who do not have the means to pay for a private lawyer.
