This winter, temperatures in northern Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and northern Ontario are plummeting, and hundreds of dogs and newborn puppies are at risk of freezing to death.
While families across Ontario gather in warm homes, countless dogs in remote northern communities are struggling just to stay alive. Wet newborn puppies freeze within minutes. Stray dogs search desperately for shelter that does not exist. Mothers give birth in the snow. Many will not survive without immediate help.
In December, a transport of 40 dogs and puppies arrived in Oakville — dogs who would have died in the cold had rescuers not intervened. A kind Oakville veterinarian - Dr. Sam Masoud from Lakeshore Woods Animal Hospital, opened his doors early on a cold Sunday morning to help us triage the dogs the moment they arrived.
But this is only the beginning. More dogs await rescue.
Niagara Dog Rescue is preparing for multiple emergency rescue transports throughout January and February, and we urgently need the community’s help to keep these dogs safe, warm, and alive.
Your donation will:
- Fund emergency transportation from northern communities to safety
- Provide vet care for frostbite, infections, malnutrition, and injuries
- Support foster homes caring for dogs who arrive terrified, sick, or newborn
- Ensure no dog is left behind in the cold
We have recently seen heartbreaking footage of a mother dog found outside in below-freezing temperatures, trying to keep her newborn puppies alive in the snow. This family, and others like them, will be arriving this weekend. We will share their stories, photos, and updates as they are brought to warm foster homes and begin their journey toward healing and adoption.
For almost 11,000 dogs over the past ten years, Niagara Dog Rescue has been the hope when there was none. But right now, the need is overwhelming, and we cannot save them without your help.
This winter, YOU can save a life.
Donate today, and help us bring them in from the cold.
Every dollar helps. Every life matters. Your compassion is their lifeline.
