About No.9 The Culture of Sustainability

No.9 is a charitable organization located in Toronto and the Rideau Lakes dedicated to working with students to inspire and encourage creative thinking around community planning, environmental issues and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.

Through our Imagining My Sustainable Community educational program we bring professional architects, designers and artists into the classroom to collaborate with students on developing concepts for their sustainable neighbourhood. Students learn about the 9 Pillars of building a sustainable community, build a scale model of their ideas and present these ideas to their local councillor and school trustee.

No.9 Gardens has been set up to teach students about the need for strong and resilient local food systems, sustainable farming and off the grid living. This unique facility offers hands-on workshops for students so that they can learn to grow organic produce and prepare healthy nutrious meals and get a vision of what a sustainable lifestyle looks like. No.9 Gardens also offers workshops on the weekends and in partnership with the indigenous community we offer indigenous led ecoligical workshops.

Cloud 9 is a new youth led Eco-Art and Electronic Music Festival at No.9 Gardens that showcases young talent and inspires youth to engage in the culture of sustainability. Our mission is to engage, provide opportunity for awareness, educate and support action on Climate Change.

Art for Change is our online and public art programming that works with artists and designers to bring attention to pressing environmental issues. Through programs like Pillars of Change we can inspire and reach youth and the general public around the world to take action and be recognized by their peers!
