About NORTH POINT DOUGLAS WOMEN'S CENTRE INC.
North Point Douglas Women's Centre is a community based centre in one of Canada's poorest urban areas. We provide a drop-in four days a week, responding to basic needs (safety, food security, phone, donations, computers, information, counseling), and seek to support and empower women and their children as they address issues in their lives. During limited hours some resources are offered to community men. Programming responds to needs identified by the community with special focus on health and safety. Health programming includes information and programs encouraging healthy food, increased physical activity and building strong relationships within families and between neighbours. Safety work includes Mama Bear Clan, community based activities for children and youth (walking school bus) and activities that build community engagement (Austin Street Festival, Community Oven).
