Periods are a fact of life. Yet, for many people, access to essential period products remains a daily struggle. Too often, individuals in our community are forced to choose between purchasing food or menstrual products, something no one should have to do.

Launched in 2020, Period Promise began as a grassroots menstrual equity campaign. Today, it’s a growing movement for access, dignity, and care. Since its inception, we've distributed over 60,000 menstrual products across Northumberland County — to individuals, families, nonprofits, and schools through our Backpacks for Kids program.

A recent national report found that 25% of menstruating individuals in Canada* have had to choose between menstrual products and other essential items like food or rent. And 17%* have experienced period poverty directly — a number that rises to 1 in 4 for households earning under $40,000 per year.

Period poverty is real — but so is the power of community to change that story.
