The Norwegian Laft Hus society operates a museum concerned with the preservation and interpretation of Norwegian culture in Red Deer, Alberta. The museum is housed in a replica of an 18th century farmhouse complete with sod roof located in Heritage Square among buildings of historical significance for the Red Deer community. In addition to maintaining a collection of artifacts the society offers a schedule of public programming throughout the year. These programs aim to teach the public the skills required to make their own folk arts or to teach more about the traditions of Norway. Though the focus of the museum is Norwegian culture and traditions we hope to instil in all visitors a greater appreciation of the diversity of Canada as interacting with our exhibits offers the chance for people to identify the similarities, and differences, with the traditions that they are familiar with.
