Odyssey Theatre is a non-profit, professional theatre in Ottawa, Canada’s fourth largest urban area. Our goal is to present innovative, imaginative productions that address universal issues relevant to our contemporary world in an emotionally and intellectually engaging manner.
We explore a form of theatre that is rooted in mask and movement, unlocks text through physical action and imagery, and is imbued with rhythm, music, dance and the arts of the fairground. Through focussed experimentation and the fusion of diverse artistic traditions, we endeavour to enrich the language of performance and further the power of the theatrical medium.
We are committed to developing and producing original Canadian plays and radical adaptations of classical works. We dedicate significant resources to nurturing and promoting artists in our field. We actively pursue the inclusion of culturally diverse artists and art forms in our work.
Odyssey makes a strong contribution to creating dynamic theatre art and opportunities in our region. We provide artists and audiences with a rich and challenging creative journey and offer programs that make theatre accessible, encourage broad participation and help strengthen the local arts community.
About Our Charity
History, Artistic Vision and Evolution:
Odyssey has grown substantially over the past 24 years. We have developed a unique artistic voice in Canada's theatrical landscape and are recognized for the high calibre of our work. CBC Radio calls Odyssey “one of the most innovative, invigorating and consistently intelligent theatre companies in Canada.”
Our plays address universal experiences and archetypal situations through myth and satire. Our work deals with issues of empowerment, individualism, romantic love, the creative spirit and social conflict through innovative productions that make these themes resonate with contemporary audiences.
