When the pandemic shut down our live performances, we wanted to continue to create theatre and support our extended family of artists, actors, and writers. We thought, why not create a fantasy drama podcast? And thus, The Other Path was born.

We invited five award-winning fantasy writers from across Canada to write their first audio drama. Their challenge: write a play inspired by an international folktale, but set it in the modern world. They have used these ancient tales to create new stories that speak imaginatively about issues we face today. The conflicts faced by the characters in each play will be familiar to everyone.

It has been a two-year labour of love working with 40 theatre professionals to bring these haunting dramas and macabre comedies to life with professional actors and artfully crafted music and sound to create an immersive experience.

We are grateful to our donors who helped Odyssey survive the shutdown of live theatre and move to digital programs to reach audiences and provide our artists with work during a difficult time. Thanks to their generous support, we have continued to create inspiring new plays that weave the magic of folklore into today’s world. 

We are pleased to offer our podcast series free to everyone. Your support today will help offset the costs of producing The Other Path, such as fees for actors, writers, music, sound designers, and studio time. It will also help us commission and bring to life more new stories in the future.
