Okanagan Xeriscape Association educates the public, horticultural and landscaping industries to create climate-resilient landscapes
The Okanagan Xeriscape Association is a registered charity run by volunteers to educate people about Gardening with Nature to conserve water used on the landscape, while creating beautiful outdoor spaces. OXA was founded in 2009 and in 2010 volunteers, with support from senior governments and the community, created a Xeriscape Demonstration Garden in Kelowna featuring plants that naturally do well in the arid Okanagan Valley. Use of native plants and their cousins ensures that little water is wasted in maintaining a colourful, vibrant landscape, with far less effort and inputs than trying to grow plants that belong in a different climate. Maintenance of the demonstration gardens, an informative website, classes, workshops and educational materials all cost money so donations to OXA are gratefully received and support a valuable community resource.
