Oldman Watershed Council

about

The Oldman Watershed Council (OWC) is a collaborative forum where all voices are heard, working toward watershed health through education, action, and stewardship. The Oldman watershed itself is a large, diverse land and water system spanning 23,000 square kilometres in southwestern Alberta and 2,100 square kilometres in Montana. It stretches eastward from the forested slopes of the Rocky Mountains, through foothill rangelands, and into the prairie grasslands.

As one of eleven Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs) in Alberta, the OWC is designated by the provincial government to serve as an independent voice for watershed management and health under the province’s Water for Life Strategy. The Council is governed by a Board of Directors that brings together nineteen different perspectives from various sectors, including four members-at-large. Staff and members work collaboratively to enhance the Oldman River watershed through knowledge sharing, education and outreach, partnership building, and innovative approaches to land and water management.
