The Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy (Oahas) is Ontario’s only Indigenous-led, provincial AIDS Service Organization (ASO). Since 1995, Oahas has provided culturally grounded programs and services for Indigenous people living with, affected by, or at increased risk of HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs).
Oahas recognizes that wellness extends beyond physical health and supports community members through a holistic circle of care that addresses immediate needs while fostering long-term wellness and self-determination guided by Indigenous harm reduction principles.
Programs and services include:
- Harm reduction supplies and safer-use kits
- Safer sex education and supplies
- HIV, hepatitis C, and STBBI prevention education
- Pre- and post-test counselling, support, and referrals
- Service navigation for testing, treatment, PrEP, PEP, and healthcare appointments
- Cultural programming, traditional medicines, and access to Elders and Knowledge Keepers
- Outreach and community-based wellness supports
- Education and training for Indigenous communities and service providers
