Giving Tuesday, November 29, is a movement for everyone who wants to make a difference in the world around them by giving back. In this spirit of generosity, we invite you to pay it forward to individuals in Nicaragua who are living on just dollars a day - struggling to afford even basic necessities - as they work towards building a more prosperous future for their families.
OUR GOAL FOR GIVING TUESDAY 2022 IS $37,500 WHICH WILL PROVIDE LOAN FUNDS FOR 100 FAMILIES IN NICARAGUA.
Opportunity International Canada offers financial services such as microloans to small-scale entrepreneurs who run their own small business, often selling local foods or handcrafts, in order to provide for their families.
The average loan size is currently $375, allowing families in need to invest in the growth of their business and build a more sustainable livelihood. Even a small contribution can contribute to major transformation for these individuals in Nicaragua.
Why Nicaragua?
In recent years, Nicaragua has faced persistent political instability and conflict which has exacerbated many economic and social inequalities throughout the country. The covid-19 pandemic only served to increase the poverty rate and the existing economic hardships that much of the population faces.
Due to the political turmoil, we have been unable to provide financial support to ASODENIC, our Implementing Partner working in Nicaragua, since 2019. As a result, thousands of people – mothers, fathers, and families – will soon no longer have access to the financial resources, training and support that would otherwise allow them to launch successful micro-enterprises enabling them to take care of their families.
We have been working with ASODENIC to find viable options that would allow us to provide the financial resources they need to continue supporting clients in their fight against poverty. With programs delivered through our Partner ASODENIC, our clients in Nicaragua would gain access to financial literacy training and basic financial services such as savings accounts and microloans to improve their livelihoods.
We believe we have found a sustainable solution and we just need your help to magnify our impact! You can help us provide loans to at least 100 people by making a gift on Giving Tuesday.
