The Orillia Silver Band has provided a rich history of brass-band music in Orillia and the surrounding area for many years. The original band was formed in 1949 as the I.O.O.F. Orillia Brass Band modeled on the classic British brass band. After a hiatus in the 1980s, the band re-emerged in 2004.
Currently the Orillia Silver Band performs regularly in the Orillia area, often teaming up with other musical groups from the region. It also sponsors and administers the Rose Dancyger Memorial Scholarship and the Harry Peacock Memorial Scholarship, helping students to further their musical education. The OSB has also commissioned new Canadian compositions from Robert Redhead (Railroad Trilogy based on Gordon Lightfoot's Canadian Railroad Trilogy), Len Ballantine (Mariposa Sketches) and Ty Watson (A Life Well-Lived).
Your donation will assist the band to continue to provide scholarships, create exciting local performances and to commission and premiere new Canadian works for Brass Band. Thank you for your support.
