It's amazing what a girl can do. When given the opportunity to gain an education, her prospects expand and her family prospers.

With the right support and encouragement, more and more girls around the world are – at last! – getting the education they deserve. But much more needs to be done. Oxfam focuses on educating girls because families struggling to pay school fees often sacrifice the education of their daughters to further the futures of their sons. Yet we know that educated girls can have a powerful impact on their communities.

If they are educated, girls have more opportunities, live healthier lives, and wait longer to start a family, and more likely to believe in the power of education for their own children.
