From West (Victoria) to East (St John's,) Jim Redmond and Steven Iseman (both with PD) will embark on a 3 month journey to raise awareness and funds. They will connect with local Parkinson’s groups and individuals in to promote the benefits of strenuous exercise and socialization in combating their symptoms. Mike Loghrin, a Parkinson Canada support group facilitator (who also has PD) and his wife Darlene Richards-Loghrin, will be traveling as ride support.
Why? To lead by example and deliver two key messages that Canadians living with PD need to hear:
1.Prioritize regular intensive exercise (medically- approved and supervised) in their day to strengthen their body and preserve functional control.
2. Participate in community-based social support programs to buoy their spirits and build resilience.
People living with PD need both, though most are doing neither. We want to connect with them and show them how. We are entirely volunteer based, sponsor supported and charge no fees.
With PD now the world's fastest growing neurological disease, this affects us all.
Donations made to the Spinning Wheels Tour will fund free exercise programs designed specifically to address the needs of people living with PD.
