The Gampo Abbey Monastic Society was established in order to:
-
foster and support a Buddhist monastic community dedicated to the founding vision of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
-
assist with and support the operation of a monastery to sustain this monastic community
-
espouse, practice, and preserve the braided lineage of teachings Trungpa Rinpoche presented for the purpose of maintaining, training and educating Buddhist nuns, monks and laypersons.
Our two current projects:
Gampo Abbey
Gampo Abbey is a Buddhist monastery in the lineage of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in Nova Scotia, Canada. Founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1983, Gampo Abbey is guided by Abbot the Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and principal teacher Bhikshuni Pema Chödrön.

Sopa Chöling Three-Year Retreat
Sopa Chöling is the three-year retreat centre at Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was envisioned by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and founded by Thrangu Rinpoche in 1990.
The retreat is the only one in the Western world that is offered entirely in English. All texts have been translated by Nalanda Translation under the guidance of Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche. The reteat is divided into segments that would allow practitioners to maintain relationships with family and careers. Situated in a building constructed especifically for this retreat, the retreat has offered cycles since 1990.
