The main purpose of the Fountain of Life is to provide a refuge for the many people who call the streets of Bishkek home. Fountain of Life runs a day centre where the homeless can come for a meal, clothing, medical care, hairdressing, and showers three days a week. FOL also provides ongoing assistance to homeless individuals who are in need of identification/registration documents. Fountain of Life’s team also does street work and advocates for the homeless to get access to hospitals for treatment.

In response to an absence of end-of-life care, particularly for homeless people, Fountain of Life built a hospice outside of the city to provide palliative care for 5-6 terminally ill homeless people at a time. The Hospice opened in September 2021. Two foreign volunteer nurses with experience in palliative care are training the local nursing staff in this specific area of care. The team hopes to provide a model of end-of-life care that will improve the quality of palliative and hospice care for all people throughout Kyrgyzstan.
