The Plant-Based Cities Movement (PBCM) is a registered Canadian charity transforming how municipalities, universities, and institutions approach food—making plant-based policies a core part of the climate solution. We combine education and advocacy to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect biodiversity, and promote healthier communities. Founded in 2021 in response to the urgent climate crisis, PBCM has grown from a small grassroots initiative into a nationwide movement. In just three years, we’ve secured plant-based policies in six municipalities—including collaborations such as the Sustainable Food Transition Coalition in Montreal—and are actively working on more. Through our Canadian University Initiative, we’ve engaged dining and sustainability leaders from 15 universities, along with experts in plant-based innovation, government, and industry. We are also running the Breaking Down Barriers campaign to understand and tackle systemic obstacles to plant-based dining and accelerate change in universities nationwide. Our approach delivers measurable impacts: municipal policies that put plant-based food on the public agenda, campus programs that make climate-friendly dining the easy and appealing choice, and cross-sector collaborations that scale solutions across Canada. Every motion passed, menu shift, and plant-based meal served brings us closer to a sustainable food system—one that benefits people, animals, and the planet. By supporting PBCM, donors play a direct role in creating lasting, systemic change. Together, we can make plant-based choices accessible, appealing, and mainstream—helping Canada meet its climate goals while building healthier communities for generations to come.
