Porchlight Counselling and Addictions Services

about

Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services offers affordable, accessible, person-centered mental health and addiction supports in Cambridge and North Dumfries.

Porchlight, formerly known as the Family Counselling Centre of Cambridge and North Dumfries, was founded to support the arrival of war brides in 1940, making our organization a supportive part of our community for 82 years (as we say, we are older than Tim Hortons!). We work to support the mental health of all ages through counselling for individuals and groups, as well as counselling, case management, and recovery living for those experiencing addictions. Our Addiction Services program includes fifteen beds in 2 houses for post-addictions treatment and stabilization where we support individuals in rebuilding their lives in the community. We know how to create meaningful connections for those in recovery and are thankful for our strong alumni network of former Recovery Home residents!

Mission: Porchlight provides a safe space where counselling and addictions services support the emotional well-being of people in Cambridge and North Dumfries.

Vision: We envision a community where emotional/mental health and well-being are prioritized and destigmatized.

Land Acknowledgement

We at Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services acknowledge that our organization and its’ respective satellite offices are located on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Neutral People, on lands connected with the Haldimand Treaty of 1784.

At Porchlight, we recognize and acknowledge that the Six Nations of the Grand River are the original caretakers of this land upon which we stand. As a counselling and addictions organization we understand that in order for us to support individuals in their healing journeys, we must hold ourselves accountable to the historical and present-day harms and injustices that our ancestors engaged in and that we are complicit in engaging in and maintaining towards Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit).
