The Community Health Centres of Northumberland delivers healthcare services to many of Northumberland County’s most vulnerable residents. We are funded to meet their primary healthcare needs, but we rely on the generosity of community members to ensure better health through access to nutritious foods.
As a Health Centre, and as a designated Good Food Organization, we aim to build food programs that promote health, belonging and social justice through the power of food. One program that continues to be in high demand is our weekly food cupboard, as community members look for support around food. We believe that access to whole, nutrient dense foods is a right for everyone in our community and realize how beneficial these foods are for both physical and mental health. It is for these reasons that our CHCN has pledged to purchase a variety of fresh produce and lean proteins every week to offer in our weekly food cupboard to help supplement the staples we already offer.
Donating to our “Fresh Food Campaign” ensures that we are able to continue offering a variety of nutritious foods to our clients in need. Your donations are used weekly to purchase these foods from local food suppliers and have been instrumental in allowing us to meet our standard for offering high quality food. We are so grateful for your support and thank you for helping us meet the needs of our community members through the power of food.
Dental Clinic
Our Dental Clinic offers basic care at a subsidized rate to those earning minimum wages and those who are without an employee health plan. Our dental care is a more compassionate, more effective, and less costly approach with better outcomes than the alternative – emergency department visits.
It’s a fact – providing access for our vulnerable neighbors to nutritious foods and basic dental care not only reduces costs to our healthcare system, but gives all of us the opportunity to ensure a decent quality of life for all Northumberland residents.
