Praxis brings knowledge and appreciation of science to the residents of Southeast Alberta.
Praxis Science Outreach Society makes science fun, interesting, and relevant to every-day life. Since 1992, our volunteers have shared their passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with youth and adults throughout Southeast Alberta. Through partnerships with local business, industry, not-for-profit and educational institutions, Praxis provides opportunities for hands-on learning and meaningful STEM experiences. Our innovative programs include the Family Science Olympics, STEM career exploration for Grade 9 students (Operations Minerva and Thoth), and the Kiwanis Southeast Alberta Regional Science Fair. Praxis lends learning resources to schools and facilitates in-school science fairs, supporting interested students further by connecting them with community mentors to help bring their research to the next level. Praxis also reaches out to the community through a weekly Science Smarts column in the local newspaper and through our Science Exposed video series, filmed by Shaw Cable. Ultimately, we believe that by helping people better understand science and the possibilities it offers, we will provide our region with a competitive advantage and make Southeast Alberta a better place to live.
