Our mission: "A WASTE FREE NORTHERN BC"
“A waste free Northern BC”
The Recycling & Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) is a charitable organization promoting waste reduction through environmental programs, information services, a compost demonstration garden and exchange of ideas and information.
REAPS was established in 1989 with the mandate of fostering environmental stewardship in the Regional District of Fraser Fort George. For over 30 years we have raised awareness on the importance of the 7 R’s - Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Rethink, Refuse, Repair, Re-gift-and the resources available locally to help residents to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. From a small grass roots society to a charitable organization, REAPS has led the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and residents in reducing their household wastes through composting, recycling, and waste avoidance.
Collectively with our organization, volunteers, and our partners, we proudly celebrate these achievements, while continuing to grow in our efforts to work towards a ‘waste free Northern BC’ in the following ways.
REAPS:
- provides over 30 school presentations on a variety of environmental topics
- provides numerous on-line and in-person community presentations from reducing waste to organic gardening.
- offers businesses the chance to participate in their Organics Waste Collection, Greening Your Business, Green Office Purchasing and Green Office Tips.
- provides information on recycling, composting, organic gardening and waste reduction to residents, businesses, NGO, and Governments.
- works with several organizations with similar mandates or initiatives to reduce their impacts on the environment.
- partakes in numerous reviews of stewardship programs, partakes in webinars, study groups and invitations to sit on committees as spokesperson on environmental research and community projects.
- provides vibrant, concrete examples of using compost in its community compost gardens.
