Ciel variable creates and spreads knowledge about contemporary photography practices in Canada for a bilingual readership sensitive to arts and culture. In the print magazine, as well as online, special care is taken to publish thoughtful texts and quality images related to current issues.

First mandate: the print magazine

The publication of three fully bilingual print issues a year (January, May, September) remains at the heart of our efforts to report on practices and research related to contemporary artistic photography. Each 116-page issue includes a thematic dossier, portfolios, essays, interviews, exhibition and book reviews.

Second mandate: Web columns

We also pay particular attention to publishing original content online. We regularly publish four columns: photobook, documentary photography, major photography exhibitions and artists' projects.

Because as a not-for-profit cultural organisation, every donation raised supports our mission. All the more so in a context where the future of magazines is never certain and the pressure to go all digital is great. For our part, we're sticking with the production of a quality print magazine.
