Writing Tomorrow

Campaign Ends Aug. 15, 2020

How would you write the future?  What does the world look like? What’s our new story?

Artists play a vital role in reimagining reality. They create the stories that show us where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going. But in this time of loss and change, many artists’ livelihoods have been jeopardized and they don’t have the resources to explore their voices and discover new narratives.

You can help artists envision a new world. Our most popular program for emerging artists – Block A  – brings together the next generation of playwrights to explore storytelling and the collaborative nature of theatre making. In the fall and winter, in small cohorts matched with a senior mentor, writers discuss the fundamentals of writing for performance, expand their craft through imagination-stimulating writing exercises, and learn from each other. This spring, when the COVID-19 pandemic made in-person gatherings impossible, our Block A cohorts met and held their final reading online (attended by over 40 people across North America).

Join PTC in making Block A FREE for all participants.

Each writer’s participation is valued at $250. Every year, PTC extends bursaries and payment plans for writers in need. This year, your donation will open the door for all participants – can you help us raise $6000 for emerging artist access?

Connection is really important right now.

Providing artists with the opportunity to connect and create is anact of confidence in our community’s recovery. If donating isn’t possible right now, send a message of inspiration to our Block A writers today. Email writingtomorrow@playwrightstheatre.com and we’ll forward your words of encouragement to our Block A applicants for 2020-21.

“Block A is an extraordinary program that has propelled me into creating my own work, embracing the particular voices and stories I have to share...I was given useful tools and valuable feedback, always knowing I was in charge of my writing, developing my own practice.” –Alexandra Lainfiesta

Let’s support the voices of the future.

P.S. Any donation you make through CanadaHelps in June helps us with the chance to win $20,000 through the Great Canadian Giving Challenge.
