About PUBLIC ENERGY
Founded in 1994 in Peterborough, Ontario (pop. 75,000), Public Energy (PE) is a nationally recognised animator of contemporary dance, theatre and performance. PE is a member of the CanDance Network, the Canadian Dance Assembly, Dance Ontario, and CCI, the Ontario presenters’ network.
Public Energy presents an annual multidisciplinary performing arts season; commissions new work in conjunction with the CanDance Creation Fund; co-presents the Ode’min Giizis Festival of Indigenous arts; and hosts educational and creative residencies consisting of classes, workshops, lectures and performances with visiting artists.
Public Energy also supports a number of local initiatives aimed at developing the city's performing artists, including the production of Emergency, an annual festival of new dance and performance by area artists, and professional classes and workshops with both local and visiting artists.
