Rainbow Railroad is an international charitable organization that assists LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex) people seeking safe haven from state-enabled violence, persecution, and the threat of death where homosexuality is criminalized. We provide information, connections, and funding for travel and other associated costs. All around the world, LGBTQI people live under constant threat of violence, criminalization and persecution. They are attacked on the streets and even in their own homes just because they are LGBTQI. They often have nowhere to turn because the government and police not only tolerate, but encourage this brutality.
With the generous support of people like you, Rainbow Railroad helps LGBTQI people get to safety when their lives are in immediate danger. We answer urgent pleas from individuals in countries like Jamaica, Uganda and Chechnya. In 2018, we received more than 1200 requests for help.
Since our founding in 2006, our organization has helped more than 500 individuals flee to safer countries. Rainbow Railroad takes no government funding. We continue to operate as a grassroots network of LGBTQI activists and allies working to answer the call of individuals trying to escape state sponsored violence. In 2013, Rainbow Railroad incorporated as a non-profit and obtained Canadian registered charity status.
We know that a plane ticket issued quickly or a bed in a safehouse can make the difference between life and death for an LGBTQI person at risk. Your support makes it possible for Rainbow Railroad to do this lifesaving work. Please consider making a gift today or becoming a monthly donor.
