Recovery Acres (Calgary) Society is a registered charity responsible for the ongoing operation of 1835 House for men and 1839 House for women, each of which are dedicated to providing ethical, effective and meaningful approach to treating all Substance Use Disorders. We proudly offer our program to people from all walks of life, practicing cultural competence and trauma informed care.
The Program
1835 House and 1839 House
The Recovery Acres program is offered to individuals who want and need our help, and are unreservedly committed to total abstinence from all mood-altering substances. 1835 House has been the start of a new life for thousands of men who have participated in our program since our doors first opened in 1973. Our women's program at 1839 House offers the same comprehensive program since 2021. Both facilities offer residential treatment or an Intensive Out Patient day program. In addition, Recovery Acres operates transitional housing for working clients who have completed treatment but are in need of group-living support while they move toward full independence.
Our multi-faceted program of recovery uses the 12-Step model in addition to providing psychological support for co-occurring disorders, and 24/7 counselling from educated and certified staff. Following the initial 6 weeks of our program, residential clients may elect to stay for an extended period of time, and are mandated to gain full-time employment. These clients continue to participate in our programming while we support them in their search for employment, and when required, help them locate housing. All of these services are parts of our goal to restore clients to the community and to continue to lead a healthy, sober life.
We believe that an individual taking the first step of recognizing they have a problem with substances is an achievement in itself, and as such, provide a simple and compassionate process to gain entry to our program once they have decided they need help. Individuals interested in either our residential or IOP program contact our counselling staff to begin our non-judgemental interview and intake process which is as barrier-free as possible. If accepted, the client commits to full participation to our program, and to respect our organization-wide guidelines.
At Recovery Acres (Calgary) Society, we understand the importance of fellowship and community that is needed to end the isolation often experienced by those in addiction. We are proud of the welcoming and safe environment we offer, and the supportive culture created by the staff and clients at both facilities.
