Recovery Acres (Calgary) Society is a registered charity responsible for the ongoing operation of 1835 House, a alcohol and drug treatment centre for men, and CARE for Women, a women's day program.
1835 House is located in a residential area of Calgary, AB.The house provides daily living and meeting space for twenty-eight residents, in addition to day program clients, counselors and staff. We are a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing an effective substance abuse treatment program that minimizes disruption and cost to the individual, family, employer, and the community at large.
In addition to 1835 House, Recovery Acres operates transitional housing at other Calgary locations for working clients who have completed treatment but are in need of group-living support for longer periods to achieve full independence.
The Program
1835 House has been the start of a new life for thousands of men since our doors first opened in 1973. The 1835 program is not for tourists. We require unreserved, total commitment to the goal of living sober, and unconditional acceptance of House rules and routines. No one is invited into the 1835 program. To become a client a man must:
a) need our services
b) want our services
c) ask to join us
d) commit to the 1835 program
e) be prepared to be held to his commitment
The 1835 program is based on total abstinence from all mood-altering substances, the 12-Step process, and mandatory employment as therapy.
